Senior Quantity Surveyor

Role – Senior Quantity Surveyor

Location: Home-based with travel to sites across London

We’re seeking a proactive and collaborative Senior Quantity Surveyor to lead the commercial delivery of major projects—or a portfolio of smaller schemes—across the London region.

This role blends the flexibility of home-based working with impactful on-site involvement, granting you the autonomy to manage your workload while closely collaborating with operational teams, clients, and key stakeholders to drive project success.

What You’ll Be Doing

As our Senior Quantity Surveyor, your core responsibilities include:

  • Championing safety and operational excellence across all project activities

    • Leading best practices in health and safety
    • Monitoring adherence to health and safety policies
  • Managing key commercial and contractual activities:

    • Preparing and negotiating subcontract documentation (terms, pricing, programme)
    • Managing subcontract work packages, including interim assessments and change management
    • Issuing commercial notices to clients and subcontractors in alignment with contractual obligations
    • Facilitating effective change management, including preparing Compensation Event Quotations
    • Coordinating monthly application for payment submissions and ensuring approvals with clients
    • Collaborating with engineering and operational teams to maintain accurate site records
    • Presenting Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs) and detailed commercial reports
    • Tracking and forecasting expenditure via Oracle-based cost-management systems
    • Assessing subcontractor liabilities and monitoring financial performance
  • Stakeholder and risk management:

    • Leading weekly progress and risk-reduction meetings with clients and subcontractors
    • Providing contractual and bid-support insights to estimating and procurement teams
    • Applying professional integrity with principles of “doing the right thing” for maximising value responsibly

About You

We’re looking for a tech-savvy, commercially experienced professional who can lead with sound judgement and strategic thinking. Ideally, you will have:

  • A relevant degree or substantial commercial experience within construction/QS
  • Experience managing large-scale projects—or multiple smaller projects
  • A valid CSCS card (suitable for the role)
  • Deep knowledge of standard construction contractual forms (e.g., JCT, NEC, FIDIC)
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, and cost/contract management systems (e.g., CEMAR, Oracle)
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, and negotiation skills
  • Excellent understanding of construction processes and project delivery approaches
  • Exceptional organisational and time-management skills
  • Professional membership (MCIOB, MRICS) or working towards it is highly desirable
