Senior Quantity Surveyor (Contract) Location: Taunton / Bristol Area (Min. 3 days/week on site) Type: Contract Rate: Approx. £550/day (Negotiable based on experience) Sector: Infrastructure / Civil Engineering / Rail / Utilities

About the Role Are you a commercially astute Senior Quantity Surveyor looking to lead high-value infrastructure projects in the Southwest? We are recruiting a contract SQS to bring commercial leadership, risk mitigation, and robust financial control to a major engineering programme across the Taunton and Bristol regions. Working alongside Business Unit Managers and Project Leaders, you will take ownership of complex commercial activities, drive project profitability, and support junior commercial staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commercial Leadership: Drive commercial strategy, cost-value reconciliations (CVRs), financial forecasting, and cost control across the project lifecycle.
  • Subcontractor Management: Lead high-value procurement, tender evaluations, valuations, variations, compensation events, and final accounts.
  • Contract & Risk Administration: Manage complex compensation events, mitigate contractual risks, and maximize commercial recovery.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong, strategic relationships with client teams, supply chain partners, and senior internal delivery leads.
  • Mentorship: Provide guidance and support to junior Quantity Surveyors within the team.

What We’re Looking For

  • Essential Experience: Proven track record as a Senior Quantity Surveyor managing high-value projects within civil engineering, infrastructure, rail, or utilities.
  • Commercial Expertise: In-depth experience with CVRs, compensation events, claims management, and complex subcontractor accounts.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced MS Excel skills and a full UK Driving Licence.
  • Desirable: Degree in QS/Commercial Management, MRICS status (or working towards), and strong working knowledge of NEC contracts.
