Senior Quantity Surveyor
Senior Quantity Surveyor – Transmission & Distribution
(Hybrid Role: Glasgow-based with home/office flexibility)
Wood is seeking an established Senior Quantity Surveyor to support our growing Transmission and Distribution business within our Commercial team. This role offers hybrid flexibility, working between home, site, and our Glasgow office—ideal for career-driven professionals eager to take on new challenges.
About the Role
Wood, a leading engineering and construction services provider, is at the forefront of net zero 2050 and requires a commercially savvy Senior Quantity Surveyor to deliver innovative solutions across the UK transmission and distribution sector.
The role:
- Responsible for contract administration, financial oversight, and strategic cost management.
- Collaborates with SSE, our key client, and contributes to high-profile Scotland-based overhead line projects.
- Enables net zero transition by supporting increased network capacity and alignment with the UK’s 2030 targets.
- Offers hybrid working (home, office, site) with opportunities for future career progression.

- Experienced Senior Quantity Surveyors (preferably from civil/infrastructure construction) with proven commercial acumen.

Key Responsibilities
Contract & Commercial Administration
- Manage post-award contract administration, ensuring payment applications, invoices, and entitlements are accurate and timely.
- Maintain contract administration files, document correspondence, and capture all variations/changes.
- Prepare and deliver essential commercial deliverables (e.g., Performance Certificates, Guarantees, insurance documentation).

Project Financial & Strategic Planning
- Develop and maintain project commercial plans, including:
- Commercial strategies
- Subcontracting plans
- Profit improvement frameworks
- Conduct detailed cost analyses to:
- Maximise recoverable costs
- Mitigate disallowable expenses
- Identify savings opportunities
- Monitor DOA matters and ensure financial accountability alignment.
Forecasting & Reporting
- Generate monthly cash flow forecasts and Expenditure vs. Budget reports in line with Wood’s and client (SSE) contractual requirements.
- Expedite timely payments and invoice processing.
- Contribute to internal project reviews, key reporting documents, and strategic forecasting.
Partnerships & Stakeholder Collaboration
- Work closely with Project Management, Supply Chain, and site teams.
- Provide sound commercial judgment for net-zero and transmission expansion projects.
- Represent Wood in energy sector leadership engagements.
Requirements
Qualifications (Essential)
- Degree in Quantity Surveying, Law or Business Studies (with a professional qualification preferred).
Experience & Skills
- Substantial Senior QS experience (ideally in transmission/distribution overhead lines).
- Strong NEC contracts knowledge (essential for procurement and structuring agreements).
- Proven expertise in:
- Change & contract administration
- Cost control & commercial negotiation
- Project financial planning (cash flow, forecasting, risk analysis)
- Awareness of Wood’s corporate and project procedures.
- Ability to travel across Scotland for site visits, occasional relocation to contract sites.
