About the Role
You will play a pivotal role in pre- and post-contract Quantity Surveying (QS) or Cost & Commercial Management services for our clients. Your responsibilities include:
- Estimating & cost planning
- Procurement & cost assurance
- Post-contract financial/commercial management
- Supporting projects of varying sizes and complexities
Depending on your seniority and experience, your role may extend to:
- Delivering QS/commercial or infrastructure projects
- Leading QS/commercial teams
- Training and mentoring staff
- Bid writing & winning work
- Providing people leadership and management
- Representing WSP UK at industry events
Your Team
You will join a dynamic team of Quantity Surveyors, Cost Managers, Commercial Managers, and Project Managers, spanning multiple sectors. As part of WSP’s Project Management and Commercial Management Team (PMCM)—consisting of approximately 400 colleagues across the UK—you will:
- Provide Quantity Surveying/Cost & Commercial Management, Programme, and Project Control services for both building and infrastructure projects (public & private clients).
- Operate within WSP’s Civil Infrastructure and Utilities group (alongside Property & Buildings, Programme Solutions, and Rail).
- Be based in our Yorkshire/North East offices, though projects may require flexible location (client offices, sites, or other WSP hubs).

Requirements
Essential
- MRICS, Assoc RICS, or working toward a professional qualification.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven QS/Cost & Commercial competencies aligned with professional institutions.
- Senior-level management/project leadership experience (where applicable).
Desirable
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Adaptable and flexible approach to workloads.
- Alternative relevant qualifications (e.g., CICES, AcostE).
- Public sector or high-value infrastructure project experience (especially under framework contracts).
- Willingness to travel (site/client offices, WSP locations, project sites).
- Passion for innovation and challenging the status quo.
- Knowledge of software such as CostX, CEMAR, or Fastdraft.
- Familiarity with NEC Contracts (especially NEC4) and other standard contracts.
- Collaboration experience with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Preference for candidates with history in QS/Commercial roles in consulting, contracting, or client organisations—water, energy, environment, infrastructure, or transportation sectors.
