Freelance Senior Quantity Surveyor

Hybrid Working | Gloucester | Outside IR35 | Long-Term Contract

Our client is a well-established civil engineering contractor delivering complex infrastructure projects across the Midlands and South West. They have built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality schemes through a collaborative approach, placing significant emphasis on long-term relationships with clients, supply chain partners, and local communities. Operating across a diverse portfolio of infrastructure works, the business has a proven track record of successfully delivering challenging projects whilst maintaining high standards of safety, quality, environmental management, and customer service. Their continued success has resulted in a growing workload and a strong pipeline of secured projects, creating the need for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join the commercial team.

The Role

An opportunity has arisen for a Freelance Senior Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial delivery of a range of civil engineering and infrastructure projects across the region.

Working on a hybrid basis from the Gloucester area, you will be responsible for managing commercial activities throughout the lifecycle of projects, ensuring robust cost control, contractual compliance, and effective risk management. You will work closely with operational teams, clients, and subcontractors to drive project success and maximise commercial performance.

This role would suit an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor with a strong background in civil engineering, infrastructure, highways, structures, flood defence, or related sectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Full commercial management of civil engineering and infrastructure projects.
  • Administration and management of NEC contracts.
  • Preparation of cost reports, valuations, forecasts, and final accounts.
  • Management of compensation events, variations, and change control.
  • Procurement and commercial management of subcontract packages.
  • Identification and management of commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Maintaining accurate commercial records and project documentation.
  • Producing regular commercial reporting for senior management.
  • Building strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and project teams.
  • Supporting successful project delivery in line with programme and budget requirements.

Experience & Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering or infrastructure.
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts.
  • Experience managing subcontract procurement and administration.
  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of project cost control and commercial reporting.
  • Experience delivering projects within infrastructure, highways, flood alleviation, structures, industrial, or commercial sectors would be advantageous.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work independently whilst supporting a wider project team.
