About the Role
An established and growing organisation within the civil engineering and infrastructure sector is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join its commercial team in Cardiff. Responsibilities
The Quantity Surveyor will play a key role in the successful commercial delivery of projects, from tender stage through to final account. Responsibilities include:
Project Commercial Management
- Assist in commercial management of projects from tender through to final account
- Prepare and maintain project budgets, cost plans, and forecasts
- Monitor project performance and provide regular commercial updates
- Support identification and management of commercial risks and opportunities
- Attend commercial and project progress meetings
- Provide commercial input on design and methodology changes

Subcontractor Administration
- Procure and manage specialist subcontractors, negotiating terms and allocating risk
- Administer subcontractor payments, variations, and final accounts
- Prepare and submit interim valuations to clients, supporting agreement of project valuations and final accounts
- Assess subcontractor applications and certify payments
Variations and Claims
- Identify, price, and negotiate variations and compensation events, maintaining accurate records for claims
- Support the management of change under NEC and other contract forms
- Produce monthly Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs), forecast final account positions and margins, and report on commercial performance
Collaboration & Operational Support
- Work closely with Project Managers, Site Teams, and wider business functions
- Ensure accurate costing and efficient project delivery in partnership with operational teams
- Maintain a strong commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility, and best practice

- Undertake any additional duties reasonably required for business and project success
Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
- HND or Degree in Quantity Surveying, or equivalent industry experience
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor in civil engineering, construction, or infrastructure sectors
- Working knowledge of UK contracts, including NEC and JCT
- Experience supporting cost control and commercial management in active projects
Technical & Compliance Skills
- Understanding of subcontractor management, including valuations, payments, and final accounts
- Knowledge of commercial reporting (cost reporting, margin tracking)
- Confidence in handling contractual obligations across project phases
Soft Skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to build relationships across teams
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Strong time management and deadline adherence
- Full UK driving licence preferred (due to travel requirements)
