Job Summary

A new opportunity has become available within the Radiotherapy Physics Department at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for two Band 8A Senior Radiotherapy Physicists to join our friendly team.

We offer a contemporary Radiotherapy Service and have implemented several key service improvements including AI auto-contouring and surface-guided radiotherapy (SGRT). We have recently commissioned a new Varian Truebeam linear accelerator equipped with the UK's first DoseRT system and have many exciting projects in the pipeline including moving our patient management system and treatment planning system to the cloud and several initiatives to improve both the efficiency and quality of our processes and treatments (e.g. RapidPlan, Scripting, Transit Dosimetry, QMS, QC management systems, 3D printing). We have a growing SABR program and are committed to improving the access to these techniques for all our patients

Main duties of the job

The core purpose of the post is to support all areas of the radiotherapy scientific service at an MPE level and to lead agreed scientific developments within the allocated sub specialism. The post holder will actively contribute to all areas of routine clinical service and assist the Head of Radiotherapy Physics and Deputies as required.

About Us

Our Poppy's Promise Commitment

We believe that compassionate care sits at the heart of everything we do. Every member of our team -- clinical or non-clinical -- plays a vital role in ensuring that patients, families, and colleagues are treated with dignity, empathy, and respect at all times.

We expect all staff to demonstrate compassion not only through their words, but through their actions: by listening attentively, communicating clearly and kindly, and recognising individual needs, feelings, and circumstances of those in our care.

Effective communication is central to safe and high-quality healthcare. We value colleagues who take the time to understand others, explain information in a meaningful way, and respond to concerns with patience and understanding.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
