About the Business Unit
We specialise in delivering transport solutions for cities, regions, and infrastructure operators globally. Our expertise spans:
- Business case development
- Procurement, environmental, and revenue strategy
- Engineering, environmental, and project lifecycle management (from planning to maintenance).
We lead the Global Transport Sector Strategy and support key initiatives like Northern Powerhouse Rail and East West Rail.
The Role: Senior Rail Operations Consultant
We seek a motivated and experienced Senior Rail Operations Consultant to join our global rail operations team, supporting projects from Northern Powerhouse Rail to light rail networks in the US and Ireland.
As a key player across our international projects, you’ll leverage your expertise in operational planning, modelling, and rail systems integration. The role offers growth opportunities in bidding, business development, and leadership.

Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with engineering, design, and client teams to ensure operational clarity in project delivery.
- Utilise Railsys (infrastructure, timetable, and evaluation modules) for planning, capacity analysis, and performance modelling.
- Support technical software like ATTUne, TPS, or similar for operational analysis.
- Analyse complex data and advise stakeholders on evidence-based decision-making.
- Engage with clients and external partners to align operational strategies with business goals.

Essential Criteria
✅ Expertise in:
- Rail operations planning
- Timetable production
- Capacity analysis
- Performance modelling
- Whole-system rail engineering knowledge
✅ Proficient in Railsys (infra, timetable, evaluation modules) and train planning software.
✅ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for interpreting complex data.
✅ Clear communication skills, with professional report-writing and presentation experience.
✅ Client-facing experience and cross-disciplinary work in rail.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience with Treno, OpenTrack, or rolling stock/crew diagramming tools.
- Familiarity with:
- Metro/light-rail/tram-train systems
- Concepts of operations and crew strategies
- International markets (e.g., Ireland, North America, Australasia, Middle East)
