Our Recycling Centre service team seeks self-motivated individuals to help increase recycling rates and divert waste from landfill in Hertfordshire.
About the Role
As a Senior Site Operative, you will be responsible for the following:
- Act as the Senior Operative on site, instructing and mentoring operatives when the Site Manager is on leave.
- Ensure the safe opening and closing of site.
- Manage all site documentation, including paper formats and computerised systems, during the Site Manager’s absence.
- Assess and assist service users with proper waste disposal methods.
- Verify permits for vans and trailers and ensure compliance for certain waste types.
- Prevent mixing of waste streams for accurate recycling/processing.
- Maintain a clean and tidy work environment.
- Continuously seek improvements in customer service and recycling rates.
- Operate JCBs and compactors (training provided).
- Join the opportunity to be part of the staff engagement group.
- Manage and implement trials for new waste streams and service improvements.

About You
To excel in this role, candidates should have:
- A proven ability to deliver excellent customer service while meeting high standards.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the confidence to advise residents on proper waste disposal.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure, ensuring compliance with safety and procedural standards.
- Experience in promoting high service standards regardless of weather conditions.
- Capability to sustain prolonged periods of physical effort.
- Ability to support and manage a team of operatives.
- First aid & fire marshal duties required.
