Senior Registered Building Inspector – Building Control Team

About the Role

Buckinghamshire Council is seeking to recruit a Senior Registered Building Inspector (RBI) to join its Class 2 and Class 3 RBIs team, supporting the council’s position as the building control provider of choice in Buckinghamshire.

This role will offer:

  • Flexible hybrid working, with opportunities to work remotely and carry out plan checking and site inspections across the county
  • A salary plus a £5,000 annual market supplement
  • The ability to support the Building Safety Regulator as part of multi-disciplinary engagement teams
  • A mobile role, allowing you to manage your time while accessing digital resources remotely

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Registered Building Inspector, you will:

  • Support duty holders through the building control process, including:
    • Implementing restricted activities under Building Regulations 2010
    • Checking plans for compliance with building control requirements
    • Conducting live site inspections to assess building work
    • Investigating unauthorised building works and ensuring compliance
  • Promote Buckinghamshire Council’s building control services, fostering strong partnerships with clients, peers, and internal teams.
  • Work collaboratively with council colleagues across Planning, Growth, and Sustainability sectors to deliver high-quality outcomes.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Full registration with the Building Safety Regulator (Class 2 RBNs A-F) and the confidence to work unsupervised on restricted activities.
  • Professional knowledge of:
    • The Building Act 1984
    • Building Regulations 2010
    • Associated legislation (including fire safety and accessibility provisions).
  • In-depth experience delivering building control services, with expertise in multi-disciplinary collaboration.
  • First-hand experience of remote working in a building control environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and a customer service mindset.
  • Evidence of proactivity in your work, with self-motivation and organisational capabilities.
  • Affiliation with a professional body (e.g., CABE, CIOB, RICS) would be advantageous.
  • Alignment with the RBI Code of Conduct, demonstrating ethical behaviours and a commitment to continuous professional development.
