About The Role

National Energy System Operator’s (NESO) strength lies in our people. Together, we’re shaping the future where clean, affordable energy is accessible for all. Every day is an opportunity to make a real difference, accelerating the progress of sustainable GB energy, keeping people connected and society thriving as we create a brighter tomorrow.

As Senior Regulatory Capability Analyst, you’ll provide embedded, hands-on support to Directorates on high-impact regulatory priorities — turning complex requirements into clear, usable steps that give teams confidence and control. You’ll play a leading role in the Regulatory Business Service, building strong relationships across the organisation, anticipating needs, unblocking issues and driving disciplined follow-through to deliver successful outcomes.

This role can be based in Wokingham or Warwick, and we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home. We are open to full-time and part-time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.

Key Accountabilities

  • Providing proactive, hands-on regulatory support to the business on high-impact issues, acting as an embedded partner who anticipates needs and enables confident, compliant regulatory delivery.
  • Taking ownership of priority regulatory tasks by coordinating evidence, actions and advice with pace, clarity and disciplined follow-through.
  • Be a reliable problem solver for (senior) colleagues, offering rapid, high-quality guidance and practical solutions that unblock issues and keep regulatory work moving.
  • Preparing accurate, complete and high-quality regulatory submissions, meeting the expectations of the business, the regulator and industry.
  • Supporting the ‘basics right’ agenda by maintaining and continuously improving processes, controls and documentation that give confidence in meeting minimum licence and regulatory requirements.
  • Communicating regulatory rules, guidance and frameworks clearly so teams understand expectations and apply them consistently.
  • Bringing together live evidence, intelligence and operational insight to support decision-making and strengthen NESO’s strategic interactions with Ofgem.
  • Building strong informal relationships across the business and with external counterparts to gather insight, anticipate issues early and support confident regulatory delivery.
  • Tracking and managing actions, dependencies and risks across regulatory workstreams to ensure nothing drifts and accountability is clear.
  • Contributing beyond role boundaries as priorities evolve, focusing effort where it delivers the greatest value for the organisation.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

About Us

At the National Energy System Operator (NESO), we play a vital role in tackling climate change and securing Great Britain's energy future. We already operate the world's fastest decarbonising electricity system and are working towards our ambition to run it carbon-free for a short period this year - provided the market supplies electricity exclusively from renewable sources. Alongside this, we provide expert advice to government on how to deliver a clean power system by 2030.

In autumn 2024, the Electricity System Operator (ESO) transitioned to become NESO - an independent, expert public corporation with a whole-system view across electricity, gas, and hydrogen. NESO operates independently and transparently, always acting in the best interests of all energy users.

Licensed and regulated by Ofgem, we make impartial decisions that balance sustainability, affordability and security. Our organisation is fully independent from government, the regulator and all commercial interests, with a clear focus on system-wide benefit, long term thinking and public value.

The time to deliver is now. Join the energy transformation and help shape the future.

Your energy. Our future. Together

National Energy System Operator (NESO) recognises the potential of bright and talented individuals, and we encourage you to join us as Great Britain’s energy system undergoes an ambitious, exciting, and vital transformation. Together with industry, we are creating a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.
