Senior Research Engineer - AI / Deep Learning / LLM / Python

Our client's research team applies AI to the design and optimisation of semiconductors, alongside fundamental research that supports both internal applications and the broader scientific community. Current areas of interest include large language models, optimisation methods for deep learning, reinforcement learning and generative models.

This is a permanent role, working 100% onsite in either London or Cambridge

What you will be doing

  • Leading engineering efforts on complex research projects in machine learning and AI
  • Optimising algorithms and ensuring the scalability and robustness of research prototypes and systems
  • Coordinating closely with researchers to align engineering work with research objectives
  • Mentoring and providing technical guidance to junior engineers and research staff
  • Contributing to technical publications and research documentation
  • Maintaining and improving research infrastructure, tools and workflows
  • Staying up to date with the latest advancements in AI and engineering best practice

What we are looking for

  • Extensive experience implementing and optimising machine learning algorithms and systems
  • Advanced proficiency in Python, C++ or similar languages
  • A proven ability to lead engineering projects, both independently and collaboratively
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers or technical staff
  • Strong problem-solving skills and excellent communication, including technical documentation

  • Familiarity with deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch or JAX
  • Experience with scalable system design and deployment in research or production environments
  • Exposure to chip design or applied AI research
  • A track record of contributing to technical publications or open-source projects
