Senior Research Fellow – Viral Hepatitis Clinical Research Program

Position Summary
This role, based in Sydney, NSW, offers a fixed-term appointment (3 years) at Full Time (35 hours/week). The Senior Research Fellow (Level C or D) will lead critical research within the Cirby Institute’s Viral Hepatitis Clinical Research Program, focusing on:
- Designing and delivering epidemiological studies, clinical effectiveness research, and clinical trials
- Improving detection, prevention, and treatment of viral hepatitis and drug user health
- Contributing to research excellence, competitive grant funding, and policy translation

Responsibilities
Core Duties (Both Levels)
- Develop and oversee large-scale epidemiological and clinical trial projects
- Analyse complex health datasets (ethnographic, epidemiological, clinical)
- Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals, secure grants, and influence policy
- Engage with communities, government, and stakeholders to harness research impact
Level C Specifics
- Conduct original research with independent leadership
- Contribute to competitive funding applications
- Provide methodological guidance and supervision
Level D Specifics
- Direct the Viral Hepatitis Clinical Research Program
- Influence public health strategy and practice
- Lead cross-institutional collaborations
Requirements
Essential
- PhD in epidemiology, biostatistics, public health, infectious diseases, drug user health, or a closely related discipline
- Proven expertise in designing, conducting, and analysing studies in viral hepatitis, drug user health, or similar fields
- Strong track record of peer-reviewed publications, competitive grants, and stakeholder engagement
- Data/statistics skills (R, Stata, SAS, Python)
- High-level teamwork skills and ability to mentor researchers (Level C)
Level D Additional Requirements
- Internationally recognised expertise in relevant fields
- Successfully secured major external funding as lead investigator
- Demonstrated research leadership and collaborative program management

Remuneration & Benefits
- AUD $155K–$185K (Level C/D, based on experience)
