Senior Research Nurse (Band 7) – Perioperative Medicine &Research Portfolio

Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

A dynamic opportunity for an experienced, motivated Senior Research Nurse to join the Perioperative Medicine Research Portfolio—with the scope and flexibility to engage across broader research specialties.


About the Role

Join an established multidisciplinary research team as a Band 7 Research Nurse, delivering a broad portfolio of studies including:

  • NIHR portfolio trials
  • Commercial research activities
  • Observational/cohort studies
  • Device and drug trials

You will lead high-quality study delivery, ensuring recruitment targets are met through proven leadership—directing research nurses, practitioners, and support staff while aligning clinical trials with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Trust policies, and regulatory standards.

A strong advocate for research and patient care, you’ll balance data Accuracy, compliance, and positive participant engagement.


Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Study Coordination

  • Provide visible leadership to research teams, coordinating activities and fostering collaboration within the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT).
  • Ensure full compliance with ICH GCP, Trust R&D policies, and sponsor guidance at every stage (feasibility to site set-up).
  • Oversee patient recruitment, target attainment, and research-related activities while upholding PRIM&RS and NRES standards.

Compliance & Governance

  • Maintain High NHS Research Governance standards, aligning all protocols with Trust and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure ICH GCP-compliant trials by overseeing accurate, timely data collection and documentation.

Patient & Team Support

  • Foster a patient-centric approach, offering support to participants and advocacy for initiatives that improve research infrastructure.
  • Flexibility and autonomy are critical—balancing administrative duties alongside project-specific outcomes.

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

  • Current Registration with the NMC (as a Nurse or Midwife) + Specialist Research Experience at Band 7/equivalent level.
  • Proven leadership skills—demonstrable experience in team management (e.g., line-managing research staff).
  • Substantial expertise in clinical trial execution (randomised, observational, device-drug trials) within a MDT.
  • Technical compliance knowledge (GCP, research governance, sponsor liaisons) alongside feasibility and protocol guidance.
  • Exceptional project management skills, ensuring quality, timeliness, and regulatory adherence.
