Senior Researcher, AI - PhD / LLM / Deep Learning

Our client's research team applies AI to the design and optimisation of semiconductors, alongside fundamental research that supports both internal applications and the broader scientific community. Current areas of interest include large language models, optimisation methods for deep learning, reinforcement learning, and generative models.

This is a permanent role, working 100% onsite in either London or Cambridge.

What you will be doing

  • Leading significant research projects in machine learning and AI
  • Developing and implementing novel algorithms and solutions for team and company initiatives
  • Providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff and research interns
  • Setting and refining research directions in collaboration with team leadership
  • Building and maintaining internal and external collaborations
  • Securing research funding through grant writing and partnership development
  • Publishing research findings in top-tier conferences and journals
  • Staying at the forefront of AI advancements

What we are looking for

  • A PhD in Machine Learning, AI, Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, or a related field, or equivalent research experience
  • An extensive publication record at top conferences (e.g. NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, ACL)
  • Demonstrated expertise in machine learning algorithms and techniques
  • Advanced proficiency in Python, C++, or similar languages
  • A proven ability to lead research projects, both independently and collaboratively
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex ideas clearly and influence research direction

Nice to have

  • Experience in optimisation, reinforcement learning, and/or large language models
  • Experience in chip design and applied AI research
  • Familiarity with deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or JAX
  • A track record of securing research funding and building successful collaborations
