Senior Residential Child Care Worker | Children's Residential Service | Central Lancashire

Senior Residential Child Care Worker

Salary: £32,061 - £36,363* per annum (temporary 1-year contract rolling with performance) Permanent, Full Time: 37 hours per week (Central Lancashire, Morecambe/Lancaster) Eligibility: UK nationals or those with proven settled status

Visa Sponsorship: ❌ This role cannot offer visa sponsorship.

Enhancements: Available for shift work, weekend working, and sleep-in duty.


About the Role

As part of Where Our Children Live, our Residential Service is expanding. Our new home in Morecambe and Lancaster seeks passionate, dedicated Senior Residential Child Care Workers (RCCWs) to create safe, supportive environments for vulnerable children and young people in care.

This initiative supports Lancashire County Council’s strategy to modernise and expand residential childcare. We specialise in nurturing meaningful, long-term relationships while fostering development through fun activities (both in-home and off-site) and robust support frameworks.

As a Senior RCCW, you will lead a team, focusing on:

  • Children with complex needs (mental health, behavioural, and emotional challenges).
  • Microsoft Teams-based collaboration with multi-agency teams.
  • Principled leadership, innovation, and empowerment in residential settings.

Key Responsibilities

Shift Leadership & Team Supervision

  • Lead by example, acting as a shift leader, mentoring staff and guiding practice.
  • Set high standards in residential care delivery, ensuring consistency and excellence.

Direct Care & Support

  • Champion safety, care, and holistic development for vulnerable children.
  • Implement care plans, education strategies, and emotional/behavioural support plans.
  • Collaborate with ALNs, Keyworkers, and social workers as part of the multi-agency pathway.

Staff & Operational Coordination

  • Mentor and guide junior RCCWs/Associate Childcare Workers.
  • Contribute to care planning inspections and regulatory requirements to ensure compliance.

Safety & Compliance

  • Actively promote and uphold safeguarding protocols.
  • Work within broader safeguarding and legislation frameworks.

Operating Hours: Mix of day, evening, weekend shifts, and sleep-in duties.


Requirements

Experience & Qualifications ✅ 3+ years of proven experience in children's social care or residential settings. ✅ QCF Level 4 or NVQ Level 3/4 (or an equivalent).

Leadership & Commitment ✅ Ability to lead shifts, build strong rapport with young people, and model resilience. ✅ Strong knowledge of safeguarding, SENCO roles, and national care standards. ✅ Demonstrated ability to influence behaviours and practices in a warm, structured way. ✅ Commitment to continuous development of self and colleagues.

Other Considerations ⚠ Business Drivers & Reports: May require collaborative work with local delivery partners. ⚠ DBS Check: Mandatory for this post as defined in the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. ⚠ Vehicle Requirement: You must provide a private, insured personal vehicle for work purposes. Exceptions: Black Region Council (Lancashire) may accommodate individual needs on a case-by-case basis.
