Senior Market Risk Analyst
Leeds | Hybrid (2 days per week) | Up to £60,000
The Opportunity
A growing UK energy business is seeking a Senior Market Risk Analyst to join its Leeds-based risk team.
This is a high-profile role offering significant exposure to senior stakeholders across Risk, Commercial, Finance, and Trading functions. It's well suited to someone with a background in Market Risk, Analytics, Quantitative Analysis, or Data Science who wants to apply their technical expertise in a commercially focused environment.
While this is an individual contributor position with no direct people management responsibilities, it offers excellent visibility and long-term progression into broader Risk, Commercial, or Trading roles.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and enhance core market risk reporting processes.
- Monitor trading positions, hedging activity, and risk limits.
- Produce regular and ad-hoc analysis, including:
- Value at Risk (VaR)
- Variance analysis
- Market exposure reporting
- Drive automation and continuous improvement of risk reporting.
- Support risk system development and reporting enhancements during ongoing system transitions.
- Assess commercial opportunities from a market risk perspective.
- Partner closely with stakeholders across Risk, Finance, Commercial, and Trading teams.
- Maintain and improve risk controls, processes, and documentation.

About You
Essential Experience
- Experience within Market Risk, Commodities, Energy, Banking, Insurance, or a similar analytical risk environment.
- Strong quantitative and analytical capability.
- Proficiency with Python and SQL.
- Experience using risk systems, reporting tools, or analytics platforms.
- Ability to translate complex data into clear business insights.
- A proactive, hands-on approach and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Desirable Experience
- Knowledge of energy markets, particularly Power, Gas, or Commodities.
- Experience with Dataiku, Power BI, Excel/VBA, or related analytics tools.
- Exposure to system migrations, reporting transformation projects, or process improvement initiatives.
- Understanding of:
- Value at Risk (VaR)
- Hedging analysis
- Risk limit monitoring
- Forward curve validation
