First Line Risk Advisor Fixed Term Contract (18 months)

Based in Cheadle (SK8 3GW) – Monday to Friday

About the Role
For over 50 years, together with a £7.8 billion loan book and 900+ colleagues, we’ve helped thousands achieve their property ambitions through a trusted approach to mortgages and secured loans.
On an 18-month fixed-term contract, you’ll join our experienced First Line Risk Team, reporting directly to the Risk Lead. As a trusted business partner, you’ll support both regulated and non-regulated mortgage business activities, enabling effective risk management for operational change and business-wide tech transformation.

- Provide independent risk oversight, training, and support in regulated & non-regulated mortgage activities to enhance risk management across the business.
- Act as a challenge partner for the following:
- Business-as-Usual operations, including RCSAs (Regulatory Change Statements) and Incident Management.
- Root Cause Analysis efforts.
- Maximise the Group ERMF toolkit to ensure risk transparent, effective, and consistent management.
- Create risk insights & divisional risk profiles for Higher Ordered Directors (HODs) to influence risk-based prioritisation.
- Compile & submit consolidated risk reports for Risk Committees.
- Support the company-wide digital transformation by designing and developing effective risk controls in collaboration with business stakeholders.
- Triage and submit risk acceptances through governance frameworks, providing a first-line challenge.
- Lead the development of Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) for business areas to detect early risk exposure.
- Provide control recommendations through targeted reviews for high-risk areas.
- Offer regular progress updates on business areas’ risk maturity.
- Enrich the 1st Line Risk operating model and play a role in shaping future frameworks.
Requirements
Candidates will stand out with a combination of the following:

- Proven experience in a 1st Line Risk role.
- A passion for partnership, collaboration, and stakeholder management.
- A history of designing effective controls for regulated processes, particularly within Financial Services or similar fields.
- Expertise in managing Operational, Conduct & Compliance Risks.
- Experience aligning with a Three Lines of Defence model.
- Strong risk knowledge, combining:
- Understanding of RCSAs, incidents, and risk metrics.
- Mastery of risk management systems and enterprise risk management frameworks.
- Bonus: Preferable experience in transformation programmes.
