Job Description

Senior Risk & Opportunity Manager
Grid Solutions | HVDC Consortium Project Organisation | Stafford, UK

Are you ready to play a pivotal role in Europe's energy transformation — managing risk at the heart of one of the most complex and exciting HVDC projects in the world? GE Vernova is looking for an exceptional Senior Risk & Opportunity Manager to join our Grid Solutions, HVDC Consortium Project Organisation team based in Stafford, United Kingdom.

GE Vernova — The Energy to Change the World

With over 130 years of experience and proven innovation, GE Vernova is leading a new era of energy. We are electrifying the world while working to decarbonise it. Our name reflects our mission. "GE" carries a legacy of quality and ingenuity. "Ver" signals Earth's lush ecosystems, while "Nova" nods to a new era of lower-carbon energy we are helping to deliver. Focused on the future, GE Vernova is accelerating the shift to reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy. We help customers power economies and deliver electricity vital to health, safety, and quality of life.

Electrification

Our Electrification solutions modernise grids, enable renewable integration, and strengthen energy systems. From software to power conversion and storage, we help create smarter, more resilient energy networks. Within this space, HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) is a key differentiating technology for Grid Solutions — and a central focus for our business across Europe, where Transmission System Operators are pursuing some of the most ambitious renewable energy targets in the world.

Let's Talk about the Role

The Senior Risk & Opportunity Manager will lead end-to-end Risk and Opportunity management for a major, complex HVDC project delivered within a Consortium Project Organisation. Supporting projects typically valued at £500 million or more, you will establish, implement and govern the Risk and Opportunity framework at consortium level. Working across a large, multicultural and international project team, you will ensure that risks and opportunities are identified, assessed, quantified and actively managed throughout the project lifecycle. This is a senior individual-contributor role requiring strong technical risk expertise, commercial awareness and the confidence to influence project leaders, consortium partners, clients and risk owners. You will take a proactive approach to driving mitigation actions, realising opportunities and providing leadership with clear insight into project cost, schedule and delivery exposure.

How You Will Make a Difference

  • Define, implement and continuously improve the Risk and Opportunity management process at consortium level, ensuring alignment with contractual frameworks and project governance requirements.
  • Own and maintain the project Risk and Opportunity register, ensuring risks and opportunities are appropriately identified, assessed, quantified, assigned and actively managed.
  • Work closely with risk owners to establish effective mitigation actions, proactively monitor progress and drive actions through to closure.
  • Lead the identification, assessment and realisation of project opportunities, including cost savings, cost avoidance and wider value-creation initiatives.
  • Deliver Quantitative Schedule Risk Analysis and Quantitative Cost Risk Analysis — QSRA and QCRA — for projects and tenders, translating complex statistical outputs into clear and actionable recommendations.
  • Lead the project change-control process, ensuring that proposed changes are identified, assessed and governed with clear visibility of their cost, schedule, contractual and risk implications.
  • Facilitate and chair project risk reviews and workshops with project teams, consortium partners, clients and other key stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain project Risk and Opportunity dashboards, reports and governance information, providing senior leadership with clear visibility of the project’s overall risk position.
  • Review project risk allowances and associated governance metrics in accordance with established project-governance requirements.
  • Review contractual frameworks to identify obligations, liabilities and exposures that require active risk management or approval.
  • Support the validation and risk assessment of Civil Works and Erection partners.
  • Implement and optimise risk-management tools and methodologies to strengthen project risk capability and decision-making.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
