Senior Road Engineer
Senior Roads Engineer (Highways Design Focus)
About WSP and the Role

This Senior Roads Engineer role sits within the Roads business, operating across the London & South East region (based in Cambridge, London (Westferry Circus), Basingstoke, Guildford, or Southampton). You’ll join a dynamic team working alongside early-career professionals, engineers, and project managers to enhance local and strategic road networks as part of WSP’s partnership with National Highways.
Key Responsibilities

Design & Specification
- Prepare designs and specifications in alignment with the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB).

Technical Delivery
- Develop designs using AutoCAD, Civil3D, PDS Signs, PDS Lines, Key Signs, Key Lines, ensuring adherence to National Highways and traditional UK highway standards.
- Deliver work packages, progressing to managing schemes and multi-disciplinary teams.

Project & Team Support
- Assist Project Managers in planning, technical input, scoping, pricing, and cost estimation for project briefs and proposals.
- Certify designs, approvals, reports, and regulated documentation, ensuring accountability.

Mentorship & Development
- Mentor graduate engineers and technicians, coordinating engineering resources to deliver work packages.
- Guide colleagues toward professional certifications for IEng or CEng status, fostering smooth career progression.

- Partner with clients and key stakeholders to ensure smooth project delivery.
Requirements & Qualifications
Essential Criteria
- A degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent with highways/traffic design experience under DMRB.
- Working toward IEng or CEng registration with a professional institution; professional certifications are advantageous.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil3D, PDS Signs (PDS Lines, Key Signs, Key Lines).
- Familiarity with Construction Design & Management (CDM) Regulations, specifically Designers’ Duties.
- Strong command of relevant legislation, standards, and procedures, including chainage and route management.
