As a Senior Rolling Stock Engineer, you'll drive innovation in trains, technologies, and fleet strategies. Whether introducing state-of-the-art rolling stock, optimizing existing fleets for high performance, or evaluating next-generation technologies, your contributions will be pivotal in shaping major rail projects.
You’ll collaborate with train operators, rolling stock owners, manufacturers, and governmental bodies to solve complex engineering challenges. Your work will directly support decarbonisation, enhance reliability, and elevate passenger experiences, ensuring sustainable and efficient rail transportation for the future.
Key Responsibilities
This strategic engineering role focuses on the full rolling stock lifecycle, from procurement and new fleet introductions to maintenance and performance improvements. Your responsibilities include:
- Supporting new rolling stock programmes and fleet introductions
- Developing technical requirements and specifications
- Conducting engineering assessments and design reviews
- Assisting with testing, commissioning, and acceptance activities
- Evaluating innovative rail technologies and future mobility solutions
- Advising clients on fleet performance, maintenance, and operational readiness
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver successful project outcomes

Requirements
To thrive in this role, you’ll bring:
- Proven experience in introducing new rolling stock or maintaining existing fleets (working with consultants, operators, manufacturers, or infrastructure managers).
- A strong foundation in rail vehicle systems and modern rolling stock—preferably gained with degrees, HNCs, or equivalent qualifications (e.g., Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related disciplines).
- A customer-first mindset, with the ability to lead workstreams or contribute significantly as part of a delivery team.
- A solution-focused, strategic approach, complemented by adaptability in changing environments.
- Willingness to travel across the UK, Ireland, and global locations as needed.
