Senior Rolling Stock Engineer

About the Role

At Jacobs, we aim to enhance the future by addressing pressing issues faced by thriving cities, resilient environments, and critical missions while promoting scientific advancements and modern manufacturing. You’ll have the opportunity to shape tomorrow by tackling some of the world’s toughest challenges.

The Future of Rail Is Redefined—and this is where you come in.

As a Senior Rolling Stock Engineer, you'll drive innovation in trains, technologies, and fleet strategies. Whether introducing state-of-the-art rolling stock, optimizing existing fleets for high performance, or evaluating next-generation technologies, your contributions will be pivotal in shaping major rail projects.

You’ll collaborate with train operators, rolling stock owners, manufacturers, and governmental bodies to solve complex engineering challenges. Your work will directly support decarbonisation, enhance reliability, and elevate passenger experiences, ensuring sustainable and efficient rail transportation for the future.

  • Supporting new rolling stock programmes and fleet introductions
  • Developing technical requirements and specifications
  • Conducting engineering assessments and design reviews
  • Assisting with testing, commissioning, and acceptance activities
  • Evaluating innovative rail technologies and future mobility solutions
  • Advising clients on fleet performance, maintenance, and operational readiness
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver successful project outcomes

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
