You’ll play a pivotal role in delivering trains, innovative technologies, and fleet strategies that ensure safe, efficient, and sustainable passenger mobility. From championing new rolling stock projects to optimising existing fleets or assessing groundbreaking technologies, your expertise will shape the future of rail.
Working with train operators, rolling stock owners, manufacturers, and government entities, you’ll address complex challenges to drive decarbonisation, enhance reliability, and elevate the passenger experience. This is an opportunity to leave a lasting mark on rail transportation.
About the Opportunity
You’ll join a highly regarded rail engineering team that delivers strategic advice and technical expertise throughout the rolling stock lifecycle. You’ll contribute to the following core responsibilities:
- Supporting new rolling stock programmes and fleet introductions
- Developing technical specifications and requirements
- Conducting engineering assessments and design reviews
- Facilitating testing, commissioning, and acceptance activities
- Evaluating innovative rail technologies and future mobility solutions
- Advising clients on fleet performance, maintenance, and operational readiness
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure successful project delivery

Your Profile
To thrive as a Senior Rolling Stock Engineer at Jacobs, you’ll bring:
- Proven experience in introducing new rolling stock or maintaining/operating existing fleets.
- Strong expertise in rail vehicle systems—developed through roles in consulting, operation, manufacturing, or infrastructure.
- Relevant educational background equivalent to a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related discipline.
- Forward-thinking mindset to adopt and evaluate emerging rail technologies.
- Sharp customer focus and ability to drive cross-functional projects.
- Strategic problem-solving skills with adaptability for evolving industries.
- Willingness to travel across the UK/Ireland and abroad when necessary.
