From innovating next-gen fleets to optimising existing networks, you’ll drive safety, efficiency, and sustainability in rail transport. Collaborating with operators, manufacturers, governments, and industry leaders, you’ll tackle decision-making challenges, introduce cutting-edge technologies, and elevate passenger experiences.

About the Opportunity
You’ll join Jacobs’ leader in rail engineering, delivering strategic expertise across the entire rolling stock lifecycle. Whether it’s introducing innovative fleets, enhancing operational readiness, or evaluating future mobility solutions, your work will have a direct, measurable impact on global rail networks.
Key Responsibilities
Bridging technical excellence and client needs, your core contributions will include:

Delivery of new rolling stock programmes:
- Advising on fleet design, specifications, and introduction strategies
- Supporting manufacturing partnerships and client engagements

Technical innovation & future-proofing:
- End-to-end design reviews, engineering assessments, and risk mitigation
- Evaluating and advocating for emerging rail and mobility technologies

Performance optimisation & reliability:
- Analysing fleet operation, maintenance schedules, and operational readiness strategies
- Applying data-driven insights to reduce downtime and fuel usage

Project-driven partnerships:
- Leading cross-disciplinary teams to deliver high-impact outcomes
- Collaborating with commissioning bodies, operators, and manufacturers on large-scale initiatives

Requirements & Qualifications
Experience & Expertise
- Proven track record in introducing new rolling stock or optimising existing fleets
- In-depth knowledge of rail systems gained through consulting, operations, manufacturing, or infrastructure management
- Engineering fundamentals paired with real-world application, demonstrated through:
- Technical specifications and requirements development
- Design reviews and risk assessment protocols
- Fleet performance analysis and maintenance planning
Technical & Strategic Fit
- Degree/qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related discipline or HNC with significant industry experience
- Strong passion for modern rail engineering and proactive learning in emerging technologies
- Client-first mindset: ability to lead or contribute critically to workstreams, maintaining clarity across complex stakeholder groups
- Adaptability: agility to navigate evolving sector challenges
- Mustering willingness for UK, Ireland, and international travel as required
