Senior Safety Engineer
Maritime & Underwater Systems
Overview
KDC Projects is supporting a leading defence technology organisation delivering safety critical systems within the maritime and underwater battlespace domain.
We are seeking an experienced Senior Safety Engineer to join an established engineering team responsible for the development and assurance of Platform Management & Control Systems supporting advanced naval and submarine programmes.
About the Opportunity
This is an opportunity to support a strategically important maritime defence programme and contribute directly to the safety assurance of systems operating within the underwater battlespace.
The role would suit an experienced Safety Engineer looking to apply their expertise in functional safety, safety assurance and systems engineering within a complex defence environment.

Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for a range of safety engineering activities including:
- Functional Safety activities
- System Safety Assessments
- Hazard Identification and Hazard Analysis
- Hazard Log development and maintenance
- Safety Case development and support
- Risk assessment and mitigation activities
- Safety Assurance across the engineering lifecycle
- Working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams and stakeholders
Required Experience
Candidates should demonstrate experience in the following areas:
- Safety Engineering within safety-critical environments
- Functional Safety principles and methodologies
- IEC 61508
- Def Stan 00-056
- Hazard Analysis techniques
- Safety Case development
- System Safety Assessments
- Safety Assurance activities

Desirable Experience
Experience within one or more of the following areas would be advantageous:
- Maritime Defence
- Naval Systems
- Submarine Programmes
- Platform Management Systems (PMS/IPMS)
- Control Systems
- Underwater Systems
- Royal Navy programmes
- Astute or Dreadnought programme experience
Security Requirements
- BPSS
- Active SC Clearance
Location & Working Pattern
- Surrey
- 1-2 days per week onsite
Contract Information
- Contract opportunity - 12 months
- Immediate start available, subject to clearance transfer and onboarding
