Job Overview

We are looking for a Senior Scientific Assistant to support and contribute to our research and product development efforts whilst providing specialized support for synthetic biology applications, contributing towards our scientific goals.

You will work in our Molecular Biology facilities to support all stages of running our high-throughput quality assay pipelines, including handling and preparing biological material, maintaining relevant laboratory stocks and supporting assay execution. You will also provide support to the scientific leads in the generation and quality control of plasmid vectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting maintenance of relevant laboratory stocks
  • Performing key molecular cloning tasks and QC
  • Strict adherence to rigorous instructions, workflows and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Maintaining strong QC and assurance practices, including traceable laboratory records and databases
  • Reporting relevant scientific and technical updates to our stakeholders in a clear, precise, and concise manner

Core Competencies

  • Enthusiasm for expanding technical skills, learning new wet-lab and in silico techniques and processes and a genuine interest in Tropic's research

  • Ability to demonstrate subject-matter knowledge in relation to molecular biology techniques and relevant technologies

Technical Competencies

  • Aseptic handling of biological material and experience in tissue culture
  • Proficiency for general molecular biology techniques (nucleic acid extraction, PCR, and sequencing technologies)
  • General knowledge of plasmid assembly and bacterial transformation methods
  • Experience with using molecular biology software and online tools (Snapgene, Geneious and BLASTn) for cloning applications
