Senior Scientific Editor, Cell Genomics (Cell Press)

About The Role
We are seeking an outstanding full-time Senior Scientific Editor to join the Cell Genomics team. We welcome applications from candidates with deep expertise in any area covered by the journal. Ideally, candidates will bring substantial editorial experience, a broad enthusiasm for science, and a strong interest in engaging with important advances across genetics and genomics. We are looking for someone who thrives in a fast-moving intellectual environment, can organize and prioritize across multiple responsibilities, and is excited by the opportunity to help shape research at the forefront of the field.
This is a full-time editorial position based in the United Kingdom, Spain, China or the Netherlands. Cell Genomics is a journal from Cell Press dedicated to publishing impactful studies across the breadth of genomics research, including work that advances understanding of genome function, the relationship between genotype and phenotype, computational and experimental methods, and related policy issues. As the journal continues to grow, this is an exceptional opportunity to join a dynamic editorial team and help define the scientific conversations that will shape the future of the field.
As a member of the Cell Genomics editorial team, you would play a central role in identifying and developing exciting science for publication. Responsibilities include recruiting strong submissions, evaluating research manuscripts, selecting expert referees, identifying timely emerging areas for commissioned content, and working closely with authors throughout the review process. The role also includes writing and editing content for the journal’s website and social media channels, contributing to journal strategy, and representing genomics publishing across Cell Press.
This position offers the opportunity to engage closely with the global scientific community through travel and virtual visits to conferences and research institutions. You will meet leading researchers, learn about important new directions in the field, present the journal to diverse audiences, and bring those insights back to help inform editorial and strategic decisions. For a scientist who is energized by rigorous research, broad scientific engagement, and the chance to influence the field beyond a single laboratory, this role offers a uniquely rewarding next step.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
