About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Scientist with experience within Microbial Upstream process development to join a growing bioprocessing team, providing technical leadership across customer-facing biologics development projects.
This is a senior scientific role focused on technical project leadership rather than line management. You'll lead and coordinate microbial upstream process development activities, working closely with customers, project managers, commercial teams, and scientific colleagues to deliver innovative biologics programmes.
The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in microbial fermentation, process development, and scale-up, alongside the ability to work across functions and confidently engage with external stakeholders.
What You'll Be Responsible For
Microbial Upstream Process Development
- Lead the design, development, optimisation, and scale-up of microbial upstream processes for biologics production
- Support the development of processes for products such as:
- Recombinant proteins
- Antibodies and biologic products
- Other microbial-expressed therapeutic molecules
- Apply expertise across microbial fermentation, strain development, and bioreactor operations
Technical Project Leadership
- Act as the technical lead for small to medium-sized development projects
- Coordinate activities across scientific, project management, and commercial functions
- Ensure technical work packages are delivered to scope, quality, and timeline requirements
- Provide scientific guidance and support to project teams and junior colleagues

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
