Senior Scientist Antibody Validation

About the Role

The Senior Scientist contributes to Abcam’s Antibody Product Portfolio Expansion by designing and implementing validation strategies for new antibodies. Reporting to the Team Leader, Immunocytochemistry and Flow Cytometry as part of the Validation Team (based in Cambridge), this onsite role offers an opportunity to shape research through:

  • Developing robust strategies for validating antibodies in fields like cancer, immunology, and infectious diseases.
  • Establishing and optimizing new assays and workflows with a focus on standardization and standardization across projects.
  • Upholding high laboratory standards, ensuring compliance with ISO 9001, internal and external quality standards.
  • Mentoring junior colleagues, fostering a motivated and collaborative working environment.
  • Managing projects to meet deadlines while proactively communicating progress to stakeholders across teams and locations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and execution of antibody validation strategies for critical research areas.
  • Define and improve processes and assays, ensuring reproducibility and scalability.
  • Oversee ISO 9001-compliant laboratory practices, upholding ethical standards and operational excellence.
  • Train, support, and inspire junior scientists in best practices and career development.
  • Drive cross-team collaboration, ensuring projects align with business goals and deliver measurable impact.

Essential Requirements

✅ Education/Experience:

  • PhD in Immunology, Immuno-Oncology, or Infectious Disease, or equivalent industry experience (typically 5+ years in a medical/biotech setting).
  • 7+ years of combined academic and industry experience in relevant scientific disciplines.

✅ Technical Expertise:

  • Strong background in Flow Cytometry, with hands-on experience in multicolor immunophenotyping (extracellular and intracellular markers for human and murine studies).
  • Proven track record in developing and validating new laboratory assays and protocols.

✅ Professional Skills:

  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills, capable of multitasking under deadlines.
  • Strong communications skills, enabling collaboration at local and global levels.

🔹 Prior leadership experience in people management. 🔹 Work experience in alignment with ISO 9001 or comparable QA frameworks.
