Purpose of the Role
The Senior Scientist (Biologics/Assays PS) will be responsible for establishing and executing work plans for the Protein Sciences Team. This role ensures successful delivery of protein science projects, spanning target families, modalities, and therapeutic areas from early drug discovery stages.
Key Accountabilities

Work Plan Design & Execution:
- Design and execute agreed work plans for early drug discovery projects.
- multidirectional leadership by directing internal resources to meet strategic goals.
- Provide oversight of results to ensure compliance with project specifications.

Project Delivery & Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Collaborate with project counterparts on the design of experiments and review of documentation.
- Present internal and external communications, including client presentations.

Data Analysis & Strategic Decision-Making:
- Conduct thorough data analysis prior to product release.
- Propose cutting-edge experimental designs and novel strategies for optimal project outcomes.

Standalone Service & Team Leadership:
- Deliver standalone scientific services and deliverables to internal/external customers.
- For reporting roles, lead colleagues in developing personal/career growth plans, aligning them with business needs.

Representation & Scientific Influence:
- Represent the company at scientific and business conferences.
- Author and publish peer-reviewed science to enhance individual and organizational scientific reputation.
Knowledge & Experience Requirements
Primary Competencies
- Profound knowledge of Protein Biochemistry, Structural Biology, or Biophysics, with experience in designing and delivering projects across target families on time, within budget, and meeting quality standards.
Technical Excellencies Required
- Ability to design and engineer recombinant proteins, antibodies, and biologics using advanced molecular biology techniques.
- Expertise in expressing proteins in:
- Bacterial systems
- Mammalian cell culture
- Insect expression systems
- Extensive experience in purification:
- Automated chromatography platforms (e.g., ÄKTA), including affinity, ion-exchange, and size-exclusion chromatography (SEC).
- Characterisation proficiency with:
- Biophysical (e.g., capillary electrophoresis (CE))
- Biochemical (e.g., plate-based assays)
- Advanced analytical methods (DLS,Far-UV nDSF, HPLC)
- Strong troubleshooting skills, applying creative solutions to optimize expression purification workflows.

Research & Publication Expectation
- Extensive background in scientific development and drug discovery research, including peer-reviewed publications.
Education & Qualifications
- A PhD degree or equivalent relevant scientific qualification plus industry experience, or:
- A First Degree in a relevant scientific subject, with extensive postgraduate experience in drug discovery.
