Purpose of the Role
Responsible for establishing and executing work plans for their protein science area. Accountable for protein science project delivery, from early drug discovery projects across:
- Modalities
- Therapeutic areas
Key responsibilities include:
- Ensuring quality and timelines in project specifications.
- Collaborating with project counterparts for:
- Experimental design.
- Review of documentation.
- Client presentations.
- Conducting thorough data analysis before product release to internal and external customers.
Additional key responsibilities:
- Proposing experimental designs and novel approaches.
- Implementing scientific services and deliverables for customers.
- Leading colleagues in personal growth plans.
- Representing the company at scientific and/or business conferences.
- Publishing peer-reviewed science to boost reputation.
Key Accountabilities
- Design and execute agreed work plans for early drug discovery projects.
- Support multiple projects, directing internal resources to meet goals.
- Provide oversight of results to ensure adherence to project specifications.
- Collaborate with colleagues to design experiments, review documentation, and prepare client presentations.
- Conduct data analysis prior to product release.
- Develop and implement innovative approaches for projects and offer novel solutions.
- Lead and deliver standalone scientific services and products.
- Guide colleagues in personal development.
- Represent Evotec at scientific/business conferences.
- Present and publish science, enhancing company reputation.

Knowledge & Experience Required

Strong technical knowledge of:
- Protein Biochemistry
- Structural Biology
- Biophysics

Proven ability to:
- Design and deliver results across target families.
- Meet timelines, budgets, and quality criteria.

Expertise in:
- Designing and engineering recombinant proteins, antibodies, and biologics using advanced molecular biology techniques.
- Expressing proteins in:
- Bacterial systems
- Mammalian systems
- Insect systems
- Optimising yield and quality
- Purifying proteins using automated chromatography platforms like ÄKTA:
- Affinity
- Ion-exchange
- Size-exclusion chromatography (SEC)
- Characterising proteins using:
- Biophysical methods (Capillary Electrophoresis (CE))
- Biochemical methods (plate-based assays)
- (Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS))
- (Near-Infrared Shift (nIRSF/DSF))
- (High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC))
- Troubleshooting expression/purification challenges for workflow refinement.

Experience:
- Preparing/executing workplans.
- Building trusted partnerships with internal/external customers.

Track record of leading scientists across specialist fields.

Demonstrating:

Scientific research/publication experience in relevant fields.
Education & Qualifications
- Ph.D. degree or equivalent experience in a relevant scientific discipline, with industry experience.
- Alternatively, a relevant first degree with supplementary drug discovery experience.
