Formal Verification Engineer – Lightweight AI-Augmented Analyses
Location: Cambridge, United Kingdom Category: IT
Arm has invested in formal models since 2016, most recently developing a formal specification of its Architecture Specification Language (ASL) and expanded its concurrency model to system-level. The team now seeks a passionate verification engineer with expertise in concurrency and large-scale codebases to pioneer lightweight, AI-augmented analysis techniques.
About the Role
This role joins Arm’s Formal Team in the Architecture Technology Group, a dynamic collective with diverse skill sets.
You’ll bring fresh insights as we address novel challenges, combine cutting-edge tools with AI, and bridge gaps between awareness, innovation, and action. Our aim is to foster mutual learning through:
- Deep technical discussions on architectural properties and systems
- Collaborative discovery of Feasible: Can AI safely complement or orchestrate our verification?
- Actionable deployment of tools into production ecosystems

Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will:
- Engage with architects, hardware designers, and software developers to identify critical verification properties
- Map solutions to business needs, identifying optimal verification techniques, trade-offs, and tools
- Customise, extend, and deploy analyses into Arm’s production pipelines, ensuring maximum impact
- Mentor team members to amplify tool and methodology adoption within and beyond Arm
Required Skills & Experience
- Mandatory:
- Proven skills in OCaml development
- Experience building and deploying industrial verification tools
- Understanding of LM generative AI systems, with emphasis on factual accuracy (non-hallucination)
- Strong ability to interface with engineers and end-users, requirements-gatherers, or tool adopters
Nice-to-Have
- Doctorate in Computer Science or formal methods-related disciplines
- Cross-domain experience bridging hardware/software teams and collaboration
