Main Purpose of the Role & Responsibilities in the Business
As a Senior Security Architect (Manager) at Kainos, you’ll be responsible for the design and application of industry-leading security practices in the platforms and services we build for our customers. Working across an array of sectors—including visa and passport processing systems, hospital medical record platforms, and global financial management and HCM systems—you’ll ensure our solutions are built with security at their core.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Agile delivery teams to enforce good security practices throughout the software development lifecycle, spanning design to deployment and maintenance.
- Drive continuous learning, implementing, and evolving new technologies and security approaches while leveraging insights from a collaborative team of experts to drive mutual growth.
- Share knowledge and educate stakeholders – whether they’re customers, Kainos team members, or cross-functional partners – on good security practices while tailoring information to varying levels of technical expertise.
- Manage, coach, and develop a small team, focusing on performance management, mentorship, and facilitating career growth.
- Provide strategic leadership in solving complex security challenges, guiding the team to deliver secure solutions that balance risk, cost, and usability.

** Requirements**
Minimum (Essential) Requirements
- Expertise in leading the secure design of new cloud services and solutions in alignment with defined security strategies.
- Ability to identify security issues in existing system designs, recommending cost-effective, risk-based mitigations that preserve usability.
- In-depth knowledge of security standards and regulations (e.g., NCSC, ISO 27001, SOC, NIST, PCI DSS, GDPR).
- Broad experience in specialisms such as AI/ML/Data Security, Cloud Security, M365 (Microsoft 365), or general Security Architecture.
- Confidence in application architecture, software development lifecycle, and infrastructure architecture.
- Relevant industry experience in sectors such as: Public Sector, Healthcare, Defence, or Commercial sectors.
- Hands-on experience in testing the security of software and infrastructure using pertinent security tools.
- Experience with Continuous Security, Continuous Integration, and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD pipelines).
- Strong network security expertise (OSI model, TCP/IP), web application security (e.g., OWASP Top 10), and proficiency in cryptographic controls (PKI, TLS).
- Proven ability to manage, mentor, and coach teams or larger organizational knowledge-sharing communities.
- Excellent communication skills to convey complex security concepts to diverse audiences, from senior stakeholders to development teams.

Desirable Qualities
- Experience with Identity Management/Authentication/Authorization products and patterns (e.g., AAAP, OAuth, SSO).
- Domain expertise in one or more industry verticals (e.g., Finance, Health, Government).
- Complete-expertise across the entire security lifecycle: governance, risk/ compliance, operational security, supply chain security, and secure user management.
- Active participation in internal and external knowledge-sharing initiatives.
- Professional penetration testing certifications (e.g., OSCP, CEH, [ISC]² CSSP, CISSP).
