Senior Security Engineer
Microsoft Offensive Research & Security Engineering (MORSE) – Senior Security Engineer (UK)
About the Role
Our Microsoft Offensive Research & Security Engineering (MORSE) team is seeking a Senior Security Engineer to protect Microsoft’s globally-used products and devices—notable for securing systems like Windows, Azure, and virtualisation platforms that support over a billion customers worldwide.
In this position, you’ll:
- Discover and mitigate security vulnerabilities at scale
- Identify weaknesses, assess their impact
- Drive security improvements across platform design and implementation
- Work alongside engineers to integrate security fundamentally into Windows, Azure, and infrastructure

Responsibilities
Responsibilities involve technology application, collaborative security influence, and leadership. Selected responsibilities include:
- Discover and analyse security vulnerabilities across:
- Operating systems
- Platform components
- Technologies This includes conducting design reviews, code reviews, fuzzing, and variant analysis

Develop and influence effective mitigation strategies to:
- Reduce vulnerabilities
- Enhance system resilience
- Tackle entire classes of threats

Collaborate with engineering teams to:
- Embed security within the development lifecycle
- Refine secure engineering practices
- Drive architectural and design security improvements

Develop & scale security tooling, detection, or analytical techniques to:
- Improve vulnerability coverage
- Detect risks early

Drive systemic security outcomes by:
- Partnering cross-departmentally
- Translating findings into actionable protections

Stay current on:
- Attacker techniques
- Novel vulnerability classes
- Industry trends

Lead technical efforts by:
- Setting security direction
- Breaking down complex initiatives
- Delivering high-impact results
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Significant security-related engineering experience (or expertise in another relevant security field)
- Hands-on experience with systems-level programming in C, C++, or Rust
Security Screening Requirements:
Ability to pass Microsoft’s mandatory security vetting, which includes:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check (required upon hiring and every two years thereafter)

Preferred Qualifications:
- Public or internal track record of impactful security research
- Deep understanding of:
- Operating system security principles
- Kernel-level or low-level platform components
- Experience in:
- Vulnerability research (commands familiarity with security practices like reverse engineering, fuzzing or exploit development)
- Mitigation implementation (including memory safety improvements, sandboxing, platform hardening, etc.)
Additional Details
Salary Information
- Penetration Testing IC4 salary range in the UK: £74,700.00 - £122,600.00 per annum
- Flexible benefits available for eligible roles.
