Senior Security Engineer
Epidemiology and Neurotech Officer
The Role
The Microsoft Offensive Research & Security Engineering (MORSE) team is seeking a Senior Security Engineer to proactively secure Microsoft’s core products, systems, and digital platforms for over a billion daily users globally.
As part of this critical security engineering team, you will:
- Drive the discovery, analysis, and mitigation of vulnerabilities across operating systems, cloud platforms, and virtualisation technologies
- Partner with engineering teams (Windows, Azure, platform infrastructure) to integrate security improvements into product design and development
- Develop sophisticated mitigations, security tooling, and defences against evolving threats at scale

Key Responsibilities
Security Vulnerability Research & Mitigation
- Conduct in-depth design and code reviews to uncover vulnerabilities in system and platform components
- Employ fuzzing, variant analysis, and technical deep dives to assess weaknesses across a broad spectrum
- Lead technical assessments of emerging security threats and their risks

Security Hardening & Tooling
- Design and scale proactive protection mechanisms to reduce risk across product ecosystems
- Contribute to innovation in security automation, detection tooling, and vulnerability classification
- Advise cross-functional teams on secure coding practices and integration into the Software Development Lifecycle (SDL)
Threat Intelligence & Industry Leadership
- Stay at the forefront of attacker methodologies, vulnerability discovery, and mitigation patterns
- Translate complex security findings into actionable recommendations and systemic improvements
- Provide technical leadership, guiding complex security initiatives and influencing strategic security direction
Requirements
Essential Skills & Experience
✔ Solid technical foundation in security-related software engineering or other security disciplines. ✔ Hands-on proficiency in systems-level programming (C, C++, or Rust). ✔ Proven ability to meet Microsoft security screening requirements, including:
- Annual Microsoft Cloud Background Checks (in-line with company policy)
Preferred Attributes
🔹 Public or internal track record in vulnerability discovery (penetration testing, research, exploits). 🔹 Deep understanding of operating system security, with experience in kernels, virtualisation, or low-level platform components. 🔹 Experience with vulnerability research techniques, including:
- Code review, fuzz testing, reverse engineering, or exploit development
- Developing security hardening, defence mechanisms (memory safety, sandboxes, etc.)

Compensation & Benefits (UK)
- Typical base salary range: £74,700.00 – £122,600.00 per annum
- Competitive benefits package, with additional compensation opportunities for eligible roles.
