Join Proton and build a better internet where privacy is the default
Proton was founded in 2014 by scientists from CERN on a simple truth: privacy is a fundamental human right. Since then, we've built the world's largest encrypted email service (Proton Mail) and expanded into Proton VPN, Proton Drive, Proton Pass, and Proton Calendar — tools used by millions globally to protect their freedom, fight censorship, and keep their data safe. In some situations, Proton has literally helped save lives.
We are profitable, independent (no VC control), and selectively hire from the top 1% of applicants. Our 700+ team members across 50+ countries come from leading organizations and elite academic backgrounds. We move fast, keep hierarchy light, and prioritize impact over optics. If you want to do meaningful work with exceptionally high-caliber people, this is it. Check our open-source projects here.
The Organic Growth Team
The Organic Growth team owns Proton's SEO strategy across all products and markets — one of our highest-leverage acquisition channels. We operate at the intersection of engineering, product, and marketing: we don't just recommend changes, we ship them. The team works directly with engineers to influence how our platform is built and treats search as a technical discipline first, not a content afterthought. You'll have real autonomy, real data, and a real seat at the table. If you're used to fighting to get SEO taken seriously, this will feel different.
What You'll Own
This is not a "tweak meta tags" job. You will solve real technical challenges, work with large datasets, and influence how our platform is built. We are not treating SEO as an afterthought. You will have autonomy to shape strategy backed by a team that invests in organic search. You'll own SEO from strategy through execution, working closely with product and engineering teams to drive measurable business growth.
Your responsibilities include:
- Own the SEO roadmap, from identifying opportunities to prioritising initiatives and measuring impact.
- Lead technical SEO initiatives across crawling, indexation, site architecture, Core Web Vitals, rendering, and JavaScript SEO.
- Analyse organic performance using Google Search Console, Ahrefs, Oncrawl, Screaming Frog, and other SEO tools.
- Work with large datasets (SQL and BigQuery are a plus) to uncover opportunities beyond standard reporting.
- Partner with engineering and product teams to ship technical improvements that move the needle.
- Drive international SEO strategy, including hreflang implementation and scalable site architecture.
- Collaborate with content teams to identify search intent and prioritise high-impact content opportunities.
- Support authority growth through digital PR and strategic link acquisition.
- Build reporting that connects SEO performance to traffic, revenue, and business growth.
- Design, run, and evaluate SEO experiments to continuously improve performance.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who brings most of the following:
- Proven experience growing organic traffic through SEO.
- Strong understanding of technical SEO and how modern websites work.
- Experience working with Google Search Console, Ahrefs, Screaming Frog, SEMrush, or similar SEO platforms.
- Confidence working with data to turn complex problems into clear, actionable insights.
- Experience collaborating with engineering, product, or development teams.
- A naturally curious mindset—you enjoy understanding why something happens, not just what to change.
Nice to Have
- Experience working on large-scale websites such as ecommerce, SaaS, marketplaces, or publisher platforms.
- SQL and/or BigQuery experience.
- Deep expertise in site architecture, crawl optimisation, and JavaScript SEO.
- Experience with BI tools such as Looker Studio, Tableau, or Power BI.
- Familiarity with SEO testing or experimentation frameworks.
What You'll Get
- Real ownership without having to fight for SEO to be taken seriously.
- Interesting technical challenges beyond content optimisation.
- The tools, data, and engineering support needed to do great work.
- Close collaboration with product, engineering, and marketing teams.
- A direct line between your work and measurable business outcomes.
Who Thrives Here
You're curious, analytical, and enjoy digging into complex problems. You're just as comfortable thinking strategically as you are getting hands-on with implementation. You challenge assumptions with data, enjoy working across teams, and care more about impact than activity.
If that sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.
