Senior SEO/AEO Consultant
Senior Technical SEO/AEO Consultant
The Role
As a Senior Technical SEO/AEO Consultant, you will help our clients win in a search landscape that increasingly includes AI assistants, LLM-driven search, and answer-first experiences. You will perform high-quality technical SEO, but you will also be expected to run structured discovery, design solutions, and execute (or support execution) across teams.
What You Will Do
- Own client strategy and delivery: Define clear technical search and AEO roadmaps, outcomes, and measurement plans, and deliver against them.
- Run discovery for selected initiatives: Diagnose problems, map constraints, and identify opportunities with client stakeholders in SEO, AEO, engineering, product, data, and content.
- Design and spec solutions: Turn discovery into well-formed specs, tickets, and implementation plans. Support developers and other teams through delivery.
- Build proof-of-concepts: Create lightweight prototypes and experiments to de-risk decisions.
- Solve technical SEO problems: Conduct audits, diagnose issues related to crawling/indexing/rendering, site architecture, performance, migrations, templates, and technical QA.
- Ship AEO initiatives: Improve how brands are discovered and represented in AI answers by combining structured data, entity modelling, information architecture, and content governance. Diagnose and remove bot access blockers using log data, and run experiments to validate impact on citations and assistant-driven journeys.
- Measure impact: Define metrics and dashboards, and use evidence to iterate.
- Contribute to Merj R&D: Help evolve internal tooling, playbooks, and points of view on SEO and AEO.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
