An established and growing civil engineering contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Setting Out Engineer
This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong engineer with expertise in surveying, setting out and digital construction technology to help drive innovation, improve site efficiency and champion modern engineering practices across a diverse project portfolio.
The Role
As a Senior Setting Out Engineer, you'll lead surveying and setting out activities while taking ownership of machine control systems and digital engineering workflows. Working closely with site teams, designers and machine operators, you'll ensure projects are delivered accurately, efficiently and to the highest quality standards.
You'll also be instrumental in promoting digital construction techniques, mentoring junior engineers and helping shape engineering best practice across the business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver accurate setting out and surveying services across multiple live projects.
- Produce and manage high-quality 3D models using Trimble Business Centre, LSS or similar software.
- Prepare, verify and distribute machine control models for site operations.
- Install, configure and maintain machine control systems and cab kits.
- Ensure survey equipment and machine control technology is calibrated and operating correctly.
- Support machine operators with the implementation and use of digital models.
- Monitor data accuracy and maintain robust QA processes throughout the project lifecycle.
- Troubleshoot surveying and machine control issues on site.
- Work collaboratively with engineering, design and site delivery teams.
- Mentor and support junior engineers while promoting engineering excellence.
- Champion the adoption of digital construction technologies and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality standards.

About You
We're looking for someone with:
- Extensive experience in setting out, surveying and site engineering within civil engineering or infrastructure.
- Strong knowledge of machine control systems such as Trimble, Leica or similar.
- Proven experience producing and managing 3D construction models.
- Good understanding of GNSS, total stations and survey control.
- Experience working on earthworks, highways, infrastructure or heavy civil engineering projects.
- The ability to interpret technical drawings and digital design information.
- Experience leading or supporting engineering teams on site.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to overcoming technical challenges.
