We are a global industrial and energy company operating across two highly interconnected and complementary sectors: Energy and Metals. Job Opportunity
Metlen Energy and Metals is seeking a Senior Site Engineer (Civil, Electrical or Mechanical) to join our M Renewables Division across the United Kingdom. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the successful delivery of large-scale Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects, helping to accelerate the UK's transition to clean energy.
Responsibilities
Working closely with the Project Manager and Construction Manager, you will lead the coordination and execution of site activities, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. As a senior member of the site team, you will provide technical leadership, coordinate multidisciplinary subcontractors, and support the successful delivery of projects from construction through commissioning and handover.
Your role will encompass:
- Lead the day-to-day delivery of Solar PV and BESS construction activities from mobilisation through commissioning and project handover.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary site engineering activities across civil, electrical, and mechanical workstreams.
- Supervise and support Site Engineers, subcontractors, and site supervisors, ensuring efficient execution of works.
- Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, construction programmes, and technical documentation to ensure work readiness.
- Plan and coordinate daily activities and short-term look-ahead programmes in collaboration with the Construction Manager.
- Monitor site progress against programme milestones, identifying risks, delays, and resource constraints while implementing mitigation measures.
- Ensure all works are executed in accordance with project specifications, engineering standards, quality requirements, and HSE procedures.
- Coordinate technical interfaces between disciplines to minimise clashes and maximise construction efficiency.
- Manage subcontractor performance, productivity, quality, and compliance with contractual obligations.
- Lead site inspections, testing activities, and QA/QC processes in accordance with Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).
- Support pre-commissioning, commissioning, testing, snagging, and final handover activities.
- Maintain accurate site documentation, including progress reports, RFIs, inspection records, and as-built documentation.
- Review and support Risk Assessments, Method Statements (RAMS), permit systems, and Temporary Works requirements.
- Act as the primary technical point of contact on site, escalating engineering and construction issues where appropriate.
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with company policies, CDM Regulations, and UK construction standards.
- Mentor and support the development of junior engineers, promoting best practices and continuous improvement across the project team.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
