Senior Site Engineer – National Grid, Uxbridge Moor Project

About the Opportunity Murphy are recruiting for a Senior Site Engineer to support Energy Team on the National Grid, Uxbridge Moor Project.

A Day in the Role

You’ll play a key role in:

  • Establishing and reinforcing best practice in Health, Safety & Environment (HS&QE), collaborating with the HS&QE team.
  • Designing temporary works schemes to maintain contractual and safety standards.
  • Actively engaging with the client, designers, team, and the supply chain to ensure alignment.
  • Advising engineers on efficient setting-out methods and techniques.
  • Ensuring construction drawings and specifications are complete, accurate, and timely—requesting missing information in sufficient lead time to avoid programme delays.
  • Clarifying technical details with foremen/supervisors for full workflow understanding.
  • Overseeing the selection and procurement of materials and plant for construction.
  • Preparing written risk assessments and method statements for holding safe work.
  • Maintaining a detailed daily site diary, documenting variations, subcontractor logs, and client/team discussions.
  • Supervising the implementation of inspection and test plans, verifying dimensional accuracy and quality against Project Management Plan (PMP) and specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Health & Safety (HS&E) Leadership:

    • Champion health, safety, and environmental (HS&E) protocols.
    • Conduct ITP reviews (Irregular Temporary Work Permissions) and develop RAMs (Risk Assessment Tools) for complex construction activities.
  • Technical Expertise:

    • Apply expertise in civil engineering legislation, including HS&E and Environmental compliance.
    • Validate site execution against design documents and client requirements.
  • Collaboration & Communication:

    • Foster open dialogue with project managers, engineers, contractors, and third-party stakeholders.
    • Produktably identify and escalate timeline delays or technical challenges.
  • Management Obligations:

    • Lead daily site execution, ensuring safe systems are managed effectively.
    • Advise on specialist issues involving onsite personnel, tools, and plant.

Requirements & Experience

To thrive in this role, you’ll need:

  • Proven track record in construction or civil engineering projects, aligned with transmission/distribution or energy transition markets.
  • Execution and procurement experience—preferably within ITPs (Irregular Temporary Work Permissions), Risk Assessment Methods (RAMs), and Temporary Works Design.
  • Advanced competencies in civil engineering legislation, HS&E standards, and environmental compliance.
  • Strong ability to liaise confidently across technical and non-technical disciplines.
  • Project management skills, including risk planning and documentation to maintain programmes.
  • Forensic attention to detailing compliance and ensuring specification resolution.
