Senior Site Manager – Major Civil Engineering & Energy Infrastructure Projects
Location: Caithness, North Scotland (working away required unless you live in the area)
An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Senior Site Manager to join a highly respected organisation with a strong reputation for delivering some of the UK's most significant energy infrastructure projects.
Working on major civil engineering schemes across North Scotland, you'll play a key role in the successful delivery of large-scale onshore infrastructure works that are helping shape the future of the UK's power network.
This is a hands-on leadership position where you'll take ownership of site operations from mobilisation through to completion, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on programme and to the highest quality standards.
The Role
You'll be responsible for leading multiple construction activities across extensive linear civil engineering works, managing site teams, subcontractors and suppliers while maintaining close collaboration with clients and project stakeholders.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the day-to-day delivery of large-scale linear civil engineering projects.
- Managing construction activities including access roads, haul roads, trenching, duct installation, joint bays, HDD crossings, and reinstatement works.
- Coordinating multiple work fronts across long cable route corridors.
- Managing subcontractors, suppliers, and direct site teams to achieve programme milestones.
- Driving high standards of health, safety, environmental compliance, and quality throughout the project.
- Monitoring construction progress, identifying potential delays, and implementing recovery plans where required.
- Acting as the main point of contact on site for client representatives and key stakeholders.
- Identifying project risks, resolving site challenges, and supporting efficient project delivery.
- Preparing progress reports, site documentation, and construction records.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
