Senior Sitecore Engineer - The Role
We're looking for an experienced Senior Sitecore Engineer to join an established engineering team supporting a large-scale digital platform for Macmillan.
This is a hands-on senior engineering role where you'll provide technical leadership within an existing squad, helping to raise engineering standards, improve delivery pace and enable the team to operate with greater autonomy.
The Engineering Manager is currently heavily involved in the day-to-day technical delivery of the squad. Your role will be to become a trusted senior technical presence, allowing the Engineering Manager to focus on wider strategic leadership, people management and engineering capability across multiple teams.

What You'll Be Doing
- Act as the senior technical engineer within an established Sitecore delivery team.
- Provide hands-on development across the Sitecore platform and wider.NET ecosystem.
- Support the squad in delivering high-quality, scalable and maintainable solutions.
- Coach and mentor engineers, raising the overall technical capability of the team.
- Drive engineering best practice, including code quality, testing, security and performance.
- Review architecture and technical designs, providing guidance where needed.
- Help unblock technical challenges and reduce delivery bottlenecks.
- Work closely with Product Managers, Delivery Leads and the Engineering Manager to ensure smooth delivery.
- Encourage knowledge sharing and foster a collaborative engineering culture.
- Champion continuous improvement across development processes, tooling and ways of working.
- Enable the team to become increasingly self-sufficient, reducing reliance on day-to-day Engineering Manager involvement.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Extensive commercial experience developing enterprise applications using Sitecore.
- Strong experience with C# and the .NET ecosystem.
- Experience working with modern Sitecore implementations, including Sitecore XP/XM (Headless experience desirable).
- Strong understanding of object-oriented design principles and software engineering best practices.
- Experience working with REST APIs and system integrations.
- Solid understanding of Azure-hosted applications and cloud-native development.
- Experience working with Git and modern CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working within Agile delivery teams.
- Comfortable mentoring engineers and providing technical leadership without direct line management responsibilities.

Desirable Experience
- Sitecore Headless or JSS.
- Experience with Azure DevOps.
- Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/Bicep).
- Docker and containerisation.
- Front-end technologies such as React, Next.js or Angular.
- Experience improving engineering standards across established teams.
- Experience working within consultancy or complex enterprise environments.
