If so, Birmingham Children’s Trust wants you!
About the Role
Birmingham Children’s Trust is looking for a Senior Social Work Assistant to join our Kinship Fostering Support Team on a permanent basis.
When children can no longer be cared for by their parents, we support them to grow up within their wider family whenever it is safe to do so. This is every child’s right, and we at Birmingham Children’s Trust are committed to supporting children and their carers within their own family network.
Listening to the child is at the heart of our approach. We support them on their own personal journey. We are looking for a Senior Social Work Assistant who is passionate about children remaining within their families to help us in supporting our children and their carers.
Our specialist Kinship Fostering Support Team provides support to placements for children and young people who are cared for by a relative or friend, where their own parents are unable to provide care. We have dedicated and passionate social work teams, led by experienced managers that support, advise and supervise all our approved Kinship Foster carers. This strengthens our Trust’s commitment to the importance of supporting children to remain with their families throughout their childhood so they can achieve positive outcomes in life.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
