About The Role
We are seeking an ambitious, experienced Senior Social Worker to join our Vulnerable, Violence, Exploitation & Edge of Care Service.
This role offers an opportunity to tackle some of the most challenging safeguarding issues affecting children and young people in Haringey—including:
- Serious youth violence
- Child criminal exploitation
- County lines activity
- Gang-related harm
- Child sexual exploitation
You will:
- Conduct direct, relationship-based work with vulnerable young people and their families.
- Deliver intensive, targeted interventions to reduce risk, build resilience, and support positive, sustainable life pathways.
- Collaborate with schools, police, healthcare providers, youth justice teams, and community partners to ensure coordinated, trauma-informed support.
- Provide robust assessments and safety planning, whether in cases of exploitation, gang involvement, or emotional distress.
- Support children and young people in staying focused on:
- Education
- Training
- Employment
- Positive role models

As a Senior Social Worker, you will also contribute leadership by:
- Sharing expertise in complex safeguarding discussions.
- Developing service models that strengthen support for vulnerable young people.
- Collaborating in risk-reduction strategies tailored to Haringey’s communities.
About The Team
The Vulnerable, Violence, Exploitation & Edge of Care Service is a multi-agency, specialist is team dedicated to tackling concerning safeguarding issues:
- Focus areas:
- Intensive outreach and support for young people at risk of/affected by:
- Youth violence (including local and travelling groups)
- Group-related offending
- Gang affiliation/exploitation
- County lines and child criminal exploitation
- Missing and vulnerable young people
- Intensive outreach and support for young people at risk of/affected by:
- Collaborative approach: Work with families, social care, schools, police, health services, and third-sector partners to:
- Reduce risk
- Improve safety
- Build trust with resistant young people
- Outcome-driven: Aim to help young people move toward safe, positive, and sustainable futures.
About You
Haringey values passionate Social Workers who are driven by the belief in empowering vulnerable young people. To excel in this role, you will bring:
Essential Competencies
- Social Work England registration (required) and a recognised qualification in social work practice.
- Significant experience (minimum 3–5 years) within statutory safeguarding services, working with children, young people, and families—especially those at risk of exploitation.
- In-depth knowledge of:
- Child criminal exploitation
- Child sexual exploitation (CSE)
- County lines gangs
- Serious youth violence
- Gangs and contextual safeguarding dynamics
- Trauma-informed adolescent risk
- Proven strong case-management skills, including:
- Conducting complex assessments
- Developing safety plans
- Risk management strategies
- Understanding of all relevant legislation (e.g., Children Act and Working Together to Safeguard Children guidelines).
- Ability to work across multi-agency partnerships, forging collaborative strategies with:
- Social care
- Education providers
- Police
- Health services
- Youth justice teams
- Proven ability to:
- Build trust with reluctant or disengaged young people
- Engage families in complex scenarios
- Strong professional skills, including:
- Clear, persuasive written communication (e.g., reports, risk assessments)
- Critical thinking in environmental spotting of risks
- Adaptability to demands in fast-paced settings
- Commitment to:
- A strengths-based and trauma-informed approach
- Professional curiosity and openness to feedback
- Resilience in challenges consigned with intergenerational harm
