Senior Software Developer (Full Stack)

About The Role

Location: Hybrid (Bournemouth, United Kingdom) Salary: Competitive + Benefits

Impact & Mission

We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Developer (Full Stack) with expertise in Android and Java microservices to join our Trust Retail team. This role involves delivering industry-standard code that powers EPOS systems, stock management, and customer engagement solutions.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Building secure, maintainable, and scalable production-grade applications.
  • Collaborating with internal teams and external clients to ensure solutions align with future needs.
  • Maintaining 24/7 operational support via an on-call rota (approximately once every 5-6 weeks), with compensation for on-call availability (Time Off in Lieu and on-call allowance).

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate development squads, implementing customer-driven and internal features using established development processes (refinement, solution design).
  • Develop features for existing and new projects while meeting business requirements.
  • Write and maintain unit and integration tests to achieve high code coverage.
  • Engage in code reviews and contribute to technical documentation.
  • Reduce technical debt and address bugs across a varied tech stack.
  • Assist test resources by building and deploying artefacts to environments.
  • Troubleshoot cloud-based infrastructure issues and solve environmental problems.
  • Participate in agile ceremonies: sprint grooming, refinement, story pointing, daily stand-ups.
  • Ensure compliance with local legislation, GDPR, codes of practice, and health & safety standards.

Qualifications & Experience

Required

  • 5+ years’ experience in full-stack development, with a focus on:
    • Android and Java microservices.
    • Front-end: Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript.
    • Back-end: MySQL or an equivalent database.
    • Testing: Experience writing unit and integration tests for Java-based web services, microservices, and Android code.
    • Version Control: Understanding of branching strategies, Git, and merge tools.
  • Ability to facilitate technical teams and translate requirements amid non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
  • Proven ability to deliver high-quality, production-ready code.

Desirable

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS).
  • Understanding of communication protocols: HTTPS, RESTful web APIs, RabbitMQ.
  • Experience using Jira, Bitbucket, GitLab, SonarCloud, or Artifactory.
  • Capability to accurately gather requirements for feature development.
