Job title: Senior Software Developer – Powertrain Data Analytics & Engineering Toolsets

Location: Whitley

Employment type: 1-year FTC (Maternity cover)

We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Developer to join a team focused on developing advanced engineering toolsets that support propulsion calibration, simulation, and data analytics. This role is responsible for designing, developing, and enhancing both desktop and cloud-based software solutions that improve engineering efficiency, automate data processing, and enable data-driven decision making.

Working closely with engineering, data, and digital teams, you will develop scalable applications and cloud services that integrate with industry-standard engineering tools, databases, and internal platforms. You will play a key role in modernising legacy applications, driving automation, and delivering high-quality software solutions that support the full engineering lifecycle.

This is an excellent opportunity for a software engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, improving engineering processes, and working with modern cloud technologies in a collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and enhancement of cloud-based and desktop engineering toolsets.
  • Develop software solutions that import, process, validate, analyse, and visualise engineering and calibration data.
  • Build integrations between engineering applications, cloud platforms, databases, and internally developed software.
  • Develop scalable data processing solutions to automate reporting, analytics, and engineering workflows.
  • Modernise legacy desktop applications by migrating functionality to Python-based desktop and cloud solutions.
  • Design and implement software architectures that are maintainable, scalable, and aligned with long-term technology strategies.
  • Develop dashboards, visualisation tools, and reporting capabilities to support engineering analysis and decision making.
  • Collaborate with engineering, data science, digital platform, and IT teams to deliver integrated software solutions.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities for automation and process optimisation.
  • Support the implementation and evolution of CI/CD practices and software development best practices.
  • Ensure high standards of software quality through testing, code reviews, documentation, and maintainable design.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
