Senior Software Engineer
Location: London (Hybrid – 1 day per week in office) Salary: £70,000–£100,000 + Benefits
Certus Recruitment is partnering with an innovative fintech business operating at the intersection of financial services, digital assets, and modern software engineering. As they build a next-generation payments platform that operates at the cutting edge of software engineering, they are seeking two Senior Software Engineers to join their growing engineering team.
This is a rare opportunity to design, build, and deliver the core platforms and services powering a regulated financial ecosystem. The systems you construct will need to meet the highest standards for correctness, security, and scalability.
About the Role
You'll collaborate with senior technical leadership to take ownership of features from design to production, constructing crucial systems that:
- Process and manage transactions
- Enforce compliance controls
- Maintain accurate financial records
- Integrate with next-generation blockchain technologies
The role demands excellent engineering judgment, clear communication, and a balanced focus on both customer-facing and internal systems.

- Design, develop, and maintain high-integrity backend services and APIs
- Build and optimize transaction, settlement, and financial ledger systems
- Drive feature delivery across the entire software lifecycle (design → deployment)
- Contribute to customer-facing applications and operational frameworks
- Work closely with engineers on smart contract integrations and blockchain-based workflows
- Ensure platforms are scalable, auditable, secure, and production-grade
- Document technical decisions and drive architectural discussions
- Operate within a design-led engineering culture, emphasizing quality and long-term maintainability
Required Experience
The ideal candidate has:
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Experience building production-grade software systems with reliability and accuracy at their core
- A fintech, payments, banking, or regulated financial services background (critically important)
- Hands-on TypeScript and modern backend development expertise
- Proficiency in SQL and database architecture, with strong preference for PostgreSQL
- Demonstrated ability in scaling platforms from concept to live production
- Strong technical writing and documentation skills
- Confidence working in a fast-moving, owner-driven engineering environment

Desirable (But Not Required) Experience
Gains extra weight if you have:
- Rust expertise, or keen interest in systems programming
- React/next.js experience alongside modern full-stack principles
- Familiarity with blockchain protocols, digital assets, or cryptographic systems
- Experience with event-driven architectures, distributed systems, or financial ledgers
- Hands-on experience in other highly regulated industries
