Senior Software Engineer

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will play a key role in shaping product direction, mentoring fellow engineers, and helping to build a world-class technology ecosystem where software and physical spaces work together seamlessly.

What You'll Be Doing
As a senior member of the engineering team, you will take ownership of the backend services that power the company's global platform.
Working closely with Product, Engineering, and external partners, you will help turn ambitious ideas into highly available, secure, and scalable solutions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and implementing scalable backend services that power the core pre-book e-commerce platform.
- Owning the complete feature lifecycle, from technical design and specification through to deployment and ongoing optimisation.
- Architecting distributed systems capable of supporting high volume consumer traffic across global airport environments.
- Collaborating with international partners to design and integrate APIs that extend and strengthen the wider platform ecosystem.
- Championing engineering best practices across automated testing, TDD, BDD, and CI/CD.
- Supporting a blameless engineering culture where production incidents are viewed as opportunities for learning and continuous improvement.
- Contributing to technical strategy and mentoring engineers across the wider team.

Essential
- Proven experience designing and delivering large-scale distributed systems and microservices for high-volume applications.
- Strong backend engineering expertise using Scala, Java, or similar languages, with Scala as a primary development language.
- Experience building and operating event-driven architectures in production environments.
- Strong database expertise across relational technologies such as MySQL and PostgreSQL.
- Deep understanding of automated build, test, and deployment processes alongside modern CI/CD practices.
- Experience delivering highly available, resilient systems at scale.

Nice to Have
- Experience with containerisation technologies and Infrastructure as Code approaches.
- Background working on e-commerce platforms or integrating with complex third-party APIs.
- Exposure to technologies such as TypeScript, React, Snowflake, AWS, or Datadog.
- Interest in leveraging AI-powered tooling to improve engineering productivity and software delivery.
