Based across London and Newcastle, we are a growing company seeking dynamic, energetic team members bursting with fresh, exciting ideas.

As we scale our platform across UK and US markets, we are hiring a Senior Software Engineer within our Engineering team.

This is a hybrid role (minimum of 2 days per week in our Cramlington office), playing a pivotal role as an independent contributor—someone comfortable with ambiguity, self-starting, and mentoring as the team continues to grow.


Responsibilities

  • Multi-Project Delivery

    • Lead and manage multiple concurrent workstreams, including feature development, platform enhancements, and infrastructure improvements.
    • Balancing competing priorities while maintaining code quality and delivery velocity.
  • Championing Engineering Best Practices

    • Advocate and embed best-in-class engineering standards (e.g., rigorous code reviews, testing methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, documentation).
    • Act as a role model for high standards within the team and drive technical improvement across projects.

  • Adoption & Process Evolution

    • Facilitate the rollout of new tools, processes, and work methodologies as the engineering organisation matures.
    • Guide teammates in understanding why changes are implemented and resolve adoption challenges.
  • Mentoring & Peer Guidance

    • Mentor junior team members through pair programming, code reviews, and informal coaching.
    • Build technical capability and confidence within the team.

Essential Requirements & Key Skills

  • Experience with PHP (Symfony or Laravel)—though open to senior engineers from other backend frameworks (Ruby on Rails, Django, .NET) or JS frameworks (React, Angular) if comfortable adapting quickly.

  • Ability to work across JavaScript (Vue.js), SCSS, and Twig (or equivalent stacks).

  • Strong knowledge of AWS infrastructure, including:

    • EC2
    • EKS/containers
    • RDS (or similar database services)
  • Background in DevOps, platform, or infrastructure engineering, including:

    • Automated CI/CD pipelines
    • Observability tools (e.g., Grafana, Prometheus/Mimir)
  • Comfortable handling multiple projects and shifting priorities effectively.

  • Autonomous, confident communicator able to work independently while influencing decision-making without direct authority.

  • Proven experience in mentoring engineers—technically, organisationally, and supportively.

  • Pragmatic approach to trade-offs between speed-to-market, technical debt, and sustainable design.
