Salary: Negotiable plus benefits, pension (7% contribution), 25 days holiday & life insurance

About the Consultancy

We are a small but rapidly growing consultancy owned by four highly experienced and recognised practitioners in the UK defence consultancy sector. We are seeking candidates with a strong blend of technical expertise and interpersonal skills, capable of working both independently and within small teams.

The Role

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will take a leading role in developing software solutions across Software Modelling, Simulation, Autonomy, and Geospatial domains. Your role will involve providing technical direction on innovation, delivering cutting-edge solutions, and guiding stakeholders through complex challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deliver software solutions using a wide range of techniques, including:
    • Wargames
    • Modelling & Simulation
    • Robotic & Autonomous Systems
    • Digital Twins & Synthetic Environments
  • Apply mathematical and computational methods to solve real-world problems, leveraging tools and techniques while innovating where necessary.
  • Lead and deliver technical consulting projects and products.
  • Build new customer relationships and maintain existing ones.

Expertise Required

Essential

At least 5 years’ experience designing and delivering software applications.

About You

We are looking for candidates who can:

  • Contribute to the company’s growth while upskilling themselves and their team.
  • Deliver competitive remuneration and opportunities for rapid career advancement.

The ideal candidate must demonstrate the following attributes:

  • 5+ years’ experience in designing and implementing performant software applications.
  • Ability to apply scientific or advanced statistical techniques to solve technical challenges.
  • Proficient in C/C++ and Python.
  • Familiarity with:
    • Software Modelling & Simulation techniques
    • Capabilities-based design
    • Autonomy & Robotics
    • Entity or Event-based Simulation
    • Videogame engine technology (e.g., Unreal Engine, Godot)
  • Expertise in performance and hardware constraints.
  • Ability to analyse use cases and project data while defining requirements.
  • Strong customer and stakeholder relationship management.
  • Willingness to travel across the UK and work at client sites for extended periods.
  • Experience in authoring technical reports and presenting at high-level stakeholder engagements.

Desirable

  • Experience with UK Defence stakeholders, including:
    • Defence Digital
    • DE&S (Defence Equipment & Support)
    • Dstl (Defence Science and Technology Laboratory)
    • Frontline Commands
  • A degree-level education (or equivalent relevant experience).
  • Strong STEM/computing background.
  • Familiarity with MS Office tools, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

Security Compliance

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Right to live and work in the UK.
  • Willingness to undergo an internal BPSS (Basic Post Clearance Checking Service) check before gaining site access.
  • Holding (or being eligible to obtain) a current SC (Security Clearance).
    • Note: To qualify, you typically need at least 5 years of UK residency.
