Senior Software Engineer

Who we are 🌍

We're IAG Loyalty - one organisation with two ambitious, growing divisions across Loyalty and Holidays. Each has its own goals, strategy and team, but together we're united by a shared vision to create a more rewarding world of travel and experiences. Our Loyalty division is home to Avios, the global loyalty currency, enabling millions of members to collect and spend rewards across travel, retail and financial services. We're on an exciting journey of growth and transformation – we're going places.

The opportunity ✨

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help shape one of the most critical platforms within IAG Loyalty. You'll join the team responsible for our Pricing Service β€” the engine that powers reward pricing across multiple airlines, partners, products and propositions. Every day, millions of customers rely on this service to redeem their Avios seamlessly, making this a genuinely high-impact engineering role. This is an opportunity to build scalable cloud-native solutions using Java, Spring Boot and AWS, influence technical direction, mentor fellow engineers and contribute to the future evolution of our platform.

What you'll be doing πŸš€

You'll own the delivery of backend features from design through to production, developing resilient, scalable services that support millions of redemption requests across our global loyalty ecosystem. Working within a collaborative product engineering team, you'll build modern microservices using Java Spring Boot, AWS and Infrastructure as Code, while ensuring high standards of testing, security and operational excellence. You'll contribute to architectural discussions, improve engineering practices, mentor junior developers through code reviews and pair programming, and help the team continuously improve how we build and deliver software. Working closely with Product Managers, engineers and partner teams across British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus and the wider IAG group, you'll help translate business priorities into high-quality technical solutions that improve customer experience and commercial performance. As part of a shared on-call rota, you'll also help support a critical customer-facing service, ensuring reliability and rapid incident resolution.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer β€” it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet β€” that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
